LA-Bred Producer/Vocalist Nala Relaunches Mi Domina Record Label with Punk-Inspired Indie Dance Single “SPIRITUAL PSYCHOSIS”

Nala

Mi Domina seeks to uplift femme artists in the dance music scene and ignite a new movement in Los Angeles.

Nala partnered with SiriusXM to launch her new Mi Domina Radio quarterly mix series, which premiered its first edition on September 18.

“Spiritual Psychosis” is now available on all platforms.

“With this track, I explored the capabilities of a Moog Sub 37 while also delving into a uniquely LA experience—cults and magic!” – Nala

LA-bred producer, vocalist, and DJ Nala has spent the past decade crafting her signature style of Riot Grrrl-inspired electronic music—a blend of punk and club aesthetics that embodies the vibrant essence of her hometown.

Her distinctive musical identity has solidified her reputation as one of the underground’s most innovative artists. Nala has showcased her genre-blending soundscapes at renowned festivals including Coachella, Ultra Music Festival, EDC Las Vegas, and Outside Lands.

She has toured alongside dance music legends like Bonobo and Solomun, collaborating with artists such as Dom Dolla, Blondie frontwoman Debbie Harry, The Dandy Warhols, and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs.

Following a string of chart-topping releases and accumulating tens of millions of streams, it’s no surprise that Beatport selected Nala for their prestigious Beatport Next Class of 2024, which highlights exceptional emerging DJs.

Now, this boundary-breaking artist continues her quest to define the Angeleno sound, commencing with the relaunch of her record label, Mi Domina.

Originally launched in 2022 but put on hold in 2023 as Nala explored the electronic label landscape, Mi Domina’s revival symbolizes a re-focusing of her artistic and philosophical goals.

The label aims to uplift femme artists in the dance music realm, spark a new artistic wave in Los Angeles, and promote innovative sounds that defy industry norms.

Translating to “dominate me,” Mi Domina is a tribute to Nala’s Italian heritage and to a femdom culture where women take the lead and are celebrated for it.

With the relaunch of Mi Domina, Nala has unveiled her new single, “Spiritual Psychosis,” which highlights her punk-infused approach to indie dance and acid house.

The track features Nala’s signature talk-sing vocal style paired with Moog Sub 37 synth lines and catchy drum rhythms, creating a vintage, psychedelic atmosphere. This marks the first time Nala has utilized the iconic Moog brand, showcasing a cohesive creative vision.

“I wrote ‘Spiritual Psychosis’ for my witches 🥳! This is the first track I created with my Moog Sub 37 and my first release in over a year on my label, @midominarecords!”

Inspired by her childhood in LA, “Spiritual Psychosis” contrasts the city’s lurid haze with its residents’ cultishly holistic lifestyle, channeling the darkly twisted magic found only in the City of Angels.

The track opens with a powerful four-on-the-floor kick drum and deep, syncopated synth bass notes. It builds with stuttering hi-hats and claps before Nala delivers her first verse.

Amid lo-fi effects, Nala’s captivating vocals emerge: “Met another girl who does magic tricks with a charm necklace; she can’t wait to tell me what her secret is—it’s hot gossip,” she sings, weaving together the track’s lively, swirling instrumentation into an angsty, occultish tapestry.

In addition to relaunching her label, Nala has introduced Mi Domina Radio, a quarterly mix series on SiriusXM that highlights experimental, rock-influenced dance music. The series debuted on September 18 through Diplo’s Revolution.

“I’m so excited to announce my new quarterly radio show, Mi Domina Radio, on @siriusxm @diplosrevolution!”
