“Monster” is about two people trapped in a toxic relationship. They know they bring out the worst in each other, yet they can’t seem to let go—or even try to change for the better,” Colby! shared about the song’s emotionally charged theme.
The track’s sparse bassline and moody production set the stage for Colby!’s ethereal vocals, which intertwine seamlessly with Zamora’s deep, brooding baritone. The song’s inception came from a simple text:
“One day, I got a message from Shaya with a little audio file and a note that just said, ‘Hey, what do you think about this song idea?’ It was just a verse and chorus idea, but I loved it right away,” Colby! recalled.
She took the idea to her brother and producer, RJ Johnson, and from there, they began refining it—sending versions back and forth with Shaya until the final version took shape.
“The whole process came together really fast. Lyrically and sonically, this was different from anything I had written before, so it was exciting to explore new creative territory. And having Shaya on the track made it even more special.”
What’s Next for Colby!
Colby! recently dropped To Each Their Own, a track that Clout hailed as “absorbing and vibrant,” while calling her “an artist we can’t get enough of lately.” She is currently in the studio, working on new music set to release throughout the year.

Named an artist to watch by Galore and Fault, Colby! grew up in Fort Worth, TX, surrounded by live music and creative outlets, from singing and writing to baking and painting.
