New York City-based indie rock band Monotronic has released their latest single and music video, “Kids Of Summer,” on August 16. This nostalgic indie-pop anthem captures the carefree spirit of youth and serves as a teaser for their upcoming album Waiting For You, set for release in early 2025.

Originally debuted as a single in 2020, the reworked version of “Kids Of Summer” now features Grammy-nominated drummer Omar Hakim, celebrated for his work with icons such as David Bowie, Daft Punk, Foo Fighters, and Miles Davis. Band leader, guitarist, and producer Ramsey Elkholy describes the song as a reflection on the freedom of youth and navigating life’s uncertainties with grace.

The accompanying music video, shot guerrilla-style through the streets of lower Manhattan during the summer of 2020, captures the vibrant energy of New York City amid the Black Lives Matter protests and the pandemic. The video also features a cameo from Elkholy’s French bulldog, Snookie, skateboarding through the streets.

“Kids Of Summer” follows the band’s recent single “Sun Song,” both of which will appear on their second full-length album, following their 2019 self-titled debut. Upon its original release, “Kids Of Summer” received international radio play, with its video premiering at #1 on VEVO’s Incoming Indie playlist.

Led by Elkholy, Monotronic incorporates elements of electronic, synth, pop, and rock, blending these influences with inspiration from Elkholy’s extensive travels. With a background in anthropology and years of exploring diverse cultures, Elkholy infuses his music with empathy and global storytelling, reflecting his unique experiences living among indigenous communities in Sumatra, Indonesia.

Monotronic’s collective approach to music encourages each musician to contribute creatively, resulting in a distinctive, cohesive sound where each instrument becomes a continuation of the other.
