Since 2003, Alabama-based bluegrass quartet Iron Horse has been the primary recording artist for the Pickin’ On series.
Known for their exceptional musicianship, precise picking, rich harmonies, and innovative arrangements, they deliver clever twists on classic tracks.
With Pickin’ On The Doors, Iron Horse turns their attention to one of the most iconic bands of the 1960s.
Formed in 1965, The Doors were countercultural icons who produced numerous major hits and classic tunes.
Despite their brief career, the band earned eight consecutive Gold-certified albums and sold over 100 million records globally, making them one of the best-selling artists of all time.
On Pickin’ On The Doors, Iron Horse reinvents twelve fan-favorite tracks by The Doors in a distinctive bluegrass style.
From “Break On Through (To the Other Side)” and “Love Her Madly” to “L.A. Woman” and “Roadhouse Blues,” Iron Horse brings a charming lightness and joy to The Doors’ most intense songs.
The Pickin’ On series is one of CMH’s most cherished traditions, and this new addition is sure to delight a broad audience while perhaps giving non-believers a new appreciation for The Doors’ music.
“It’s been a while since we started working on this project of The Doors songs, but revisiting it now, I think we should have done this sooner,” shares Iron Horse’s Tony Robertson.
“Their great songs just naturally adapted to the bluegrass genre. ‘Break On Through’ is packed with all the grit and energy you can fit into a three-and-a-half-minute song.
You can feel the determination of the writer to convey every emotion and drive the story right into your soul. It was a privilege for us to work with such fantastic material and present it this way—thanks to CMH.”
The Pickin’ On series began modestly in 1993 with the release of Pickin’ On the Movies. Tributes to The Beatles and Eagles soon followed, and by 1997, the series had gained widespread acclaim.
It continues to thrive, blending traditional bluegrass with popular music and constantly pushing the boundaries of the genre.
Recent Pickin’ On releases featuring Iron Horse, such as Pickin’ On Pearl Jam and Pickin’ On Nirvana, have been well-received, garnering coverage from Rolling Stone, Brooklyn Vegan, and Uproxx, among others.
Albums like Pickin’ On Modest Mouse and Fade to Bluegrass: The Bluegrass Tribute to Metallica have even charted on Billboard’s Top Bluegrass Albums chart.
The series has also received extensive retrospectives from outlets like Los Angeles Times and No Depression. Currently, the Pickin’ On series boasts 170,000 monthly listeners and over 90,000 followers on Spotify, with songs featured in TV series like Revolution and HBO’s True Blood.
Other artists honored by the Pickin’ On treatment include Grateful Dead, Bob Dylan, The Allman Brothers Band, Coldplay, The Black Keys, Jack White, The Killers, and many more.

About CMH Records:
Founded in 1975 by Martin Haerle, CMH Records has been a pivotal force in American roots music, releasing essential albums from legends like Merle Travis, The Osborne Brothers, Mac Wiseman, Joe Maphis, Jim & Jesse McReynolds, Grandpa Jones, Lester Flatt, and Eddie Adcock.
Throughout the ‘90s and into the new millennium, CMH Records continued to produce records with artists such as Wanda Jackson (aka “The Queen of Rockabilly”), Raul Malo, Larry Cordle, Pine Mountain Railroad, Jimmy Gaudreau, and many others.
The label remains a proud family business, now run by Martin’s son David. Described by the Los Angeles Times as a “stubborn, curious Silver Lake music company,” CMH has championed honest music and found success with its classic catalog and ongoing Pickin’ On series, featuring bluegrass interpretations of contemporary artists, including recent hit albums dedicated to Nirvana and Modest Mouse.
The Times praised CMH for meeting “unsung needs in the music industry” and cited its “creative diversification.”
