Actor-Producer Chrissy Peterson Joins Overdrive Studios and Develops New Short Film “Female” Through Silver Lining Productions
Bay Area independent filmmaker expands from performance into producing and development while keeping her own production banner
MILL VALLEY, Calif. — Actor, producer, and emerging filmmaker Chrissy Peterson has joined filmmaker Chris Hinton and Overdrive Studios as a producer, while continuing to develop original narrative work through her own independent production company, Silver Lining Productions.
Peterson established herself as an actor through independent film, including a leading role as Rose Davis in the upcoming feature Roan Creek, written and directed by Alyix Phillips. She has since expanded her work behind the camera, taking an active role in developing, producing, and championing projects rather than waiting for the industry to determine which stories she gets to participate in.
Overdrive Studios collaboration
Peterson’s work with Hinton and Overdrive Studios includes Marked, an independent film project on which she is involved as both an actor and a producer. Overdrive Studios, founded by Hinton, operates a full-service production facility in Brisbane, California, and has become another creative home for Peterson as she expands her understanding of physical production and the filmmaking process beyond performance.

Peterson maintains Silver Lining Productions as her own independent banner. Rather than treating independent production companies as competitors, she is focused on building collaborative relationships that allow filmmakers to share resources, perspectives, and opportunities while maintaining their own creative identities.
“Female” in development
Silver Lining Productions is developing Peterson’s upcoming short film, Female, with an eventual festival run in mind. The project represents an important next step in her evolution as a filmmaker and reflects the kind of work she wants the company to become known for: narrative storytelling with a distinct perspective, emotional honesty, and female characters who are allowed to exist beyond traditional archetypes.
Through Silver Lining Productions, Peterson aims to create narrative-driven films with strong emotional perspectives, with a particular interest in complex female characters and stories that allow women to be messy, ambitious, flawed, funny, difficult, vulnerable, and fully human.
Continued acting work
Alongside developing and producing her own work, Peterson continues to act and collaborate with other independent filmmakers. Her projects include Roan Creek and Vox, both written and directed by Alyix Phillips; Marked, directed by Chris Hinton; and You, Me and Our Shadows, written and directed by Dom Scott. She is intentionally building a career that does not require choosing between being in front of the camera and behind it.
Peterson approaches filmmaking from both sides of the camera, bringing an actor’s understanding of character and performance into her work as a producer while becoming a stronger actor through understanding how films are built from the ground up. Her stated ambition is to help build an independent filmmaking community in Northern California where talented people can make ambitious work together.
