Yessi Sanchez: From Swiss Countryside to Hollywood Limelight

Mexican-born, Swiss-raised actress Yessi Sanchez is taking Hollywood by storm with two feature film premieres this Spring and an upcoming social media series that she wrote and produced herself.

We sat down with Yessi to learn more about her journey in the film industry, the challenges she’s faced, and the top three people she’d love to meet to elevate her career.

A passion for storytelling

Yessi’s love for storytelling began in the Swiss countryside where she grew up. “There wasn’t much to do, so I would spend a lot of time coming up with creative ideas for storytelling,” Yessi explains.

Her passion for the human psychology and the beauty of cinematography led her to pursue a career in acting.

“I truly believe that storytelling in any form can change the world and bring attention to important issues,” Yessi says. Her commitment to authenticity in her performances stems from her belief that she has a responsibility to portray the characters she plays truthfully and respectfully.

Overcoming self-doubt

Yessi has faced her fair share of challenges in the film industry, but she admits that her biggest obstacle has been herself. “For the longest time, I didn’t believe in myself, and I was incredibly insecure,” Yessi shares. “But I didn’t show that side of me to the world.”

Through self-care practices like yoga and meditation, Yessi has been working on overcoming her self-doubt and insecurities. “I am a constant work in progress,” she says.

Looking to the future

Yessi has her sights set on meeting three individuals who could elevate her career: filmmaker Darren Aronofsky, actress and producer Gina Rodriguez, and director Chloé Zhao.

“Darren Aronofsky is such an incredible filmmaker. I love his process and how he develops the characters with the actors,” Yessi explains.

“Gina Rodriguez is such a force in the Latin film industry, and I admire her work so much. And Chloé Zhao is an amazing director, and I would love to work with her someday.”

As Yessi prepares for the premieres of “City of Love” and “Mind Over Max,” as well as the release of her social media series “LOVE/HATE,” it’s clear that her passion for storytelling and dedication to her craft will continue to propel her forward in the film industry.
