Introducing Abby Trott: Actor, Singer, and Storyteller
Hi! I’m Abby Trott—an actor and singer who has spent the past decade working primarily in voiceover. My career has taken me from Tokyo to New York City and now to Los Angeles, where I live with my partner and our two cat-children.
I’ve always loved animation and video games from a fan’s perspective, so getting to work on them professionally truly feels like a dream realized.
What Sets Abby Apart
I’m a morning person—next question!
But honestly, my time living abroad has shaped my worldview in meaningful ways. I spent six years in Japan and can speak Japanese and a bit of Mandarin, which often helps with anime and video game localization. I also sing and have a strong ear for voice-matching.
That said, the voiceover community is full of incredibly talented people with their own unique strengths, and I’m constantly amazed by my peers.

The Moment the Path Became Clear
I’ve always loved cartoons and video games, but it wasn’t until adulthood that I discovered voiceover could be a full career. While living in Japan, I was taking on as many acting gigs as I could, and I realized I was especially drawn to the voiceover work.
Choosing to move back to the U.S. to pursue VO was incredibly difficult, but I knew I owed it to myself to follow that calling.
Biggest Challenge and How She Overcame It
Leaving Japan and starting over felt like going back to square one. I didn’t know where to begin, so I leaned on every resource I had—connections, conversations, and online opportunities.
That’s when I found the “Perfect Idol” voice acting contest on YouTube, hosted by Bang Zoom Studios and Star Child. Uploading my audition was terrifying; I had no idea if I belonged there.
But I won.
That led to dubbing my first anime, Miss Monochrome, and building friendships and industry relationships that helped shape my career.
Bringing Momo Ayase to Life in Dandadan
Momo is such a joy to portray. She’s hilarious, heartfelt, awkward, fierce—she has so much emotional range, and as an actor, that’s a gift.
This show is special because everyone involved is incredible.
- Yukinobu Tatsu’s original manga is phenomenal.
- Science SARU’s animation and direction are masterful.
- Our localization director, Alex von David, pours so much heart into every detail.
- Our sound team are absolute wizards.
- And my castmates continually inspire me.
I adore this team.
Nezuko and the Global Phenomenon of Demon Slayer
Fans all over the world know me as Nezuko in Demon Slayer. With Infinity Castle now in theaters, I’m excited for fans to experience the stunning animation and to learn more about the backstories of other characters.
I won’t spoil anything—especially with the film still fresh!
Working in Video Games vs. Working in Anime
Some game projects, especially localized ones like Fire Emblem: Three Houses, involve ADR-style sessions similar to anime.
But in most video games, we rarely get finished animation to go off of. Sometimes we get key art or models, but often it’s just the script in front of us. That’s where a strong director—and a strong imagination—makes all the difference.
Singing “Lifelight” for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate
As a lifelong Nintendo fan, being chosen to sing “Lifelight” was surreal and incredibly meaningful.
I remember seeing fans react to it during the game’s reveal in the Nintendo store—my heart was racing, and my palms were sweaty wondering what people would think. At the time, most didn’t even know it was me singing!
Now it’s a fun little secret I get to share. Sometimes I tell people to imagine Nezuko or Momo singing it.

Dream Roles on the Horizon
I’m itching to take on a performance capture role. Getting to act alongside others physically and bring a character to life through full-body performance would be an absolute dream.
Voice Actors She’d Love to Work With
Although I’ve crossed paths with her many times, I’ve never recorded alongside Grey DeLisle—and that would be amazing.
I’d also love the chance to work with the legendary Cree Summer and Eric Bauza. I would absolutely die!
Upcoming Work and Where to Hear Her Next
You can catch me as Ono in Sanda on Prime Video.
If you play Cookie Run Kingdom, I voice Salt Cellar Cookie.
And there’s more coming very soon!
