House music legends Ten City, featuring lead singer and songwriter Byron Stingily and renowned electronic producer Marshall Jefferson, were set to perform a special concert celebrating the 40th anniversary of Chicago house music.

Accompanied by a 14-piece live band and special guests, the event was held at Metro on Friday, November 22. Tickets for this highly anticipated show were made available online.

The concert was organized in collaboration with House Music 40, a non-profit dedicated to promoting Chicago’s house music heritage while offering financial support to house music creatives facing health challenges.

Born during the rise of acid house in the 1980s, Ten City fused their disco roots with messages of hope and positivity, providing a lyrical balm for the world’s woes.

Their debut album, Foundation, released in the late ’80s, became a genre-defining classic. It featured “That’s The Way Love Is,” a top-ten hit in the UK and a Billboard #1 in the U.S.

Ten City’s sound exemplified deep house, blending gospel, soul, and disco with Stingily’s powerful falsetto—evoking inspirations like Philip Bailey of Earth, Wind & Fire and Sylvester.

Together with Marshall Jefferson, they released standout hits like “Right Back to You,” “That’s The Way Love Is,” and “Devotion.” Before disbanding in the mid-’90s, Ten City released four albums, including Foundation and That Was Then, This Is Now, and achieved multiple charting singles.

Nearly 30 years later, Ten City returned with Judgment (2021), a collaborative album created by Stingily and Jefferson, with producers Emmaculate, Shannon Chambers, DJ Spen, and Tommy Davis.

The album earned a GRAMMY nomination in 2022 for Best Electronic/Dance Album. Following this success, they released Love Is Love in 2023, featuring collaborations with Chicago artists DRAMA and UK producers Wh0.
